It is a completely different design from Les Paul's standard: low-volume pickups, an extended filter and electronic section that has not been used in any other Gibson model. The Recording model was created at one of the most interesting moments in the company's history — Norlin Era (1969–1985). It is a time of intense experiments, custom solutions and courageous construction ideas. The early 1970s are today considered to be the most interesting in this era, as instruments were still being created in Kalamazoo, with a lot of manual work and a characteristic "dense" sound.
