The 2018 Mac mini fits mini in the original RackMac. However, the 2018 Mac mini features larger openings than the previous Mac mini, as more air to cool the six-core 2018 Mac mini models is needed. The original RackMac mini was not designed for this increased airflow requirements. You can use 2018 Mac Minis with the original Mini RackMac under the following conditions: 1) It uses only a 2018 Mac mini in a RackMac mini. 2) You can use two 2018 Mac minis, but only if it is both are 4-core models with an i3. 3) The LED position of the 2018 Mac mini has changed, so that it is mini no longer visible on the front of the original RackMac. Sonnet does not recommend the use of two 6-core Macs of type 2018 in an original RackMac Mini. If one has two mace of the type 2018, the 6-core models with an i5 or i7 are, the air flow may not be sufficient for a heavy CPU load. Sonnet has therefore a new 2018 mini RackMac developed which has sufficient air flow for two 2018 Mac mini with a 6-core i7.
