Thorens - TD 1601 with TP160, high-gloss walnut at a glance The Thorens TD 1601 turntable, equipped with the innovative TP 160 tonearm, is the latest development of its multi-award-winning predecessor, the TD1601. It presents itself with a classic wooden casing and a two-piece aluminum platter, which is driven by a precisely ground, internal drive belt. The external linear power supply TPN 1600 with a powerful toroidal transformer ensures a stable 2x 16V supply to the synchronous motor, which guarantees smooth running of the platter. The TP 160 tonearm is characterized by a high-precision cutting bearing. This 9 inch (approx. 23 cm) J-shaped tonearm with SME headshell connection takes up the design of classic studio tonearms and additionally stabilizes the horizontal bearing with magnets for exact tracking of the vinyl record. The sub-chassis is supported by three springs that stand directly on the floor instead of being suspended from the top board. A tensioned steel thread along the motorized roller platter axle prevents lateral wobbling, which allows for even oscillation. A patented electric lift and a non-contact limit switch increase ease of use. Balanced XLR outputs provide a professional and interference-free connection to the phono preamplifier, essential for amplifying the sensitive phono signal. Optimal use of the True Balanced Connection requires a moving coil (MC) cartridge.
